Have You Been Inadvertently Damaging Your Diet?

By Audrey Riggs

We all recognize that the best foods to take in when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These are the foods that give us protein along with energy. They keep our bodies healthy nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories which will later have to be burned off at the gym. Did you already know, though, that a number of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly okay by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They might be even adding calories to your body! Here are a few of the foods that you might be eating which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You aren't actually served by Sports Drinks. You've possibly been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your system feel better after a workout. Most doctors will let you know, though, that if your exercise routine doesn't go over ninety minutes then you ought to be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks could completely weaken your diet program because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Try having some chocolate milk as a substitute. The sugar inside the chocolate helps your muscles start to recover and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Protein Shakes are certainly not a person's friend. Lots of people feel that protein shakes can be used rather than meals and to curb cravings between meals. The real truth is that for anyone who is already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overburden your system with protein. Contrary to popular opinion, protein isn't going to get stored as muscle, it gets stored as fat. If you've already had your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just keep the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not as useful to you as you might think. It's typically thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread as well as lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives along with about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This is going to be especially dangerous if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of picking deli meat, pick home cooked chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Sure these are generally a lot more expensive options but they are quite a lot healthier for you.

There are a lot of things that we think will help us lose weight: eating a whole wheat bagel in the morning, by way of example is actually a lot worse for you than a bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon sprinkled into it for flavor. Ask a medical expert which things are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are cautious about what exactly you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
